BlobFest 2008 Schedule!
If you
thought last year’s BlobFest was impressive, the folks at the
Colonial Theatre have gone and outdone themselves for this year’s
celebration by mixing the return of past festival favorite events
with some brand new contests and surprises!
First
and foremost, there'll be guests who'll be at BlobFest! Who?

Of
course, no BlobFest would be complete without the Friday evening
Scream Contest and then the Running Out Re-enactment. After being
big hits last year, the Short Film Contest and the Tin Foil Hat
competition will also be held on Friday evening, along with an
appearance from the winner of the Colonial Theatre’s Steve McQueen
look-a-like contest.
Saturday will feature the annual Street Fair, Costume Contest and
Fire Extinguisher Parade. Of course, there will be two screenings of
The Blob, as well as screenings of the original Creature From The
Black Lagoon in 3-D and the William Castle cult classic The
Tingler, featuring Vincent Price! In addition, there will be a
special ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of
the release of The Blob.
If you
are not too worn out on Sunday, there are two different tours of
filming locations used for The Blob, as well as a screening
of the Steve McQueen documentary An American Rebel.
Keep in
mind that some events, like the Friday night Revelry and the
Saturday Street Fair, are free while other things such as the
Saturday Film Screenings do require paid admission.
The

Friday, July 11
7:00
pm- Running Out Re-enactment Revelry featuring the Tin Foil
Hat Competition, The Scream Contest, The “Shorty” Short Film Awards,
an appearance by the winner of the Steve McQueen lookalike contest
and of course, the Running Out. Music will be provided by the
Neanderthals – the band that time forgot – with Eddie Angel from Los
Straitjackets.
9:00
pm- The Blob Ball- The Steel City Coffeehouse hosts a 50s themed
dance with music provided by the Rivers Rockabilly Trio. For tickets

Saturday, July 12
11:30
am- Street Fair opens.
12:00
pm- Fire Extinguisher Parade, Bridge Street in front of theater
12:15
pm- Costume Contest, Bridge Street in front of theater. Contestants
should arrive by 11:30 to register.
1:00
pm- 50th Anniversary Commemoration- Colonial Theatre,
Admission wristband required- First, a 15min video
highlighting the before-and-after film & TV careers of The Blob's
cast, followed by a special appearance by Director Shorty Yeaworth's
son, Kris Yeaworth. He will shed light on many of the questions and
mysteries still surrounding The Blob. Although many people
took time from their lives to help Good News Productions make the
film we celebrate, Kris is a true insider- he lived there!

am- Self-Guided Location Tour. Downloadable maps and directions
(coming soon) from the Colonial Theatre’s website lead you on a tour
of many of the locations used during the filming of The Blob.

am – 2:00 pm- Historic Yellow Springs Tour. From 1952 to 1974,
Yellow Springs was the home of Good News Productions, the film
studio where Shorty Yeaworth created The Blob.
2:00
pm- An American Rebel screening. Screening of Richard
Martin’s Steve McQueen documentary. |
