BlobTour
Although primarily filmed at Valley Forge Films, The Blob director
Irvin "Shorty" Yeaworth shot many keynote scene for the film on
location. Whether a cost-saving measure or an attempt to lend more
verisimilitude to his production, the use of actual Chester County,
PA diners, supermarkets and movie houses lend an air of authenticity
that heightens the tension of the film.
Fortunately, many of these locations are still in existence, in one
form or another, and just waiting for a visit from a dedicated
Blob fan. In July of 2001, during the Colonial Theater's BlobFest
weekend, BlobSite founder Rita and her husband went around
the Phoenixville and Downingtown areas to track down the locations
used to make the movie. This Blob tour is the result of that journey. Many of the
"now" pictures were taken that weekend, with a few added
as the appearance of certain locations change. As always, a hearty
thanks to all the fans who have emailed in with updated information
and photos.
Through
the magic of filmmaking, certain locations are not as near as they
seem. The Blob may appear to leave the Colonial Theatre and head
across the street to the Downingtown Diner, when in reality the two
locations are some 18 miles apart from one another. The BlobTour
links below are listed in the film's chronological order, with a map
showing each location on its respective page.
